Meet Dr. Coleman

Who is Will Coleman, Ph.D.?

What is this Work?

Theologian

Will Coleman, Ph.D. is a theologian (a theologian is a person who thinks, does research on, writes and talks about divine presence and creation).  He grew up in the Pentecostal tradition within the Church of God in Christ, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee.  This is where he was first ordained.  After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in religion at Rhodes College in Memphis, he moved to Decatur, Georgia in order to attend Columbia Theological Seminary. There, he received his Master of Divinity degree, with a focus in theology, and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.   A few years later, he went on to receive his Doctorate of Philosophy degree (“with distinction”) from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California.  His areas of concentration were in theology, philosophy of religion and interpretation theory. Afterwards, he taught theology and interpretation theory at Columbia Theological Seminary.

Will Coleman, Ph.D. is CEO/President of Revelation 22:1-2, Inc.  He is also Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Black Kabbalah Institute.  The former does work in accordance with the biblical passage to which it refers. The latter is designed to teach and apply principles of the Hebrew mysticism for the enrichment of Afrikan/Americas spiritual and psychological health.  It is a nonsectarian affiliate of the First Afrikan Community Development Corporation.     He is also affiliated with the First Afrikan Church in Lithonia, Georgia and Adjunct Professor at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.  He has many years of research, writing and teaching experience in the areas of the bible, theology and mysticism.

Theology and Mysticism

In addition to his vocation as a theologian, Will Coleman, Ph.D. has studied and practiced a wide range of mystical topics and disciplines (mysticism focuses on experiences of intuitive encounters with the inner structures of existence) including Afrikan-centered spirituality, Kabbalah, Hermeticism and Taoism.  An Afrikan-centered spirituality is rooted in the knowledge that Afrika is the mother of humanity and sacred continent from which all meditations on the divine-human encounter originated.  The Kabbalah (Hebrew mysticism) incorporates knowledge of specific biblical texts with both visual and auditory meditation techniques that enhance one’s appreciation for the relationship between the divine and human interconnection.  Hermeticism is the study of ancient Egyptian-inspired, Greek-influenced philosophy and practices that focus of the powers of the human imagination to be regenerative and participate in the ongoing process of development and growth within the various planes of existence.  And Taoism is the holistic Chinese approach to nature-based rhythms of “The Way” toward self-integration for achieving tranquility of body, mind and spirit.

Through many years of research and meditation, Will Coleman, Ph.D., has cultivated his own method of teaching and demonstrating what it means to be in the “image to the creative forces” of life (Genesis 1:26-31).   I am Will Coleman, Ph.D.  Teaching theology and mysticism is the Great Work (Latin, magnum opus) that is represented here.  Welcome to Volume I of this series of studies.  This first installment is called, “The Bible and Mediation.”
